HURRICANE PREPARATION

1)     Secure or store outside objects such as furniture, flower pots, etc.  They will blow around and cause damage.

2)     Secure your windows using storm shutters or 5/8” pre-cut marine plywood.  Tape will not prevent windows from shattering.

3)     Turn off utilities (water and electric) if instructed to do so.  Turn off propane and fuel oil tanks.  These should also be secured with metal strapping per MD code as they will float in flood waters.

4)     Ensure a supply of drinking, sanitation and cooking water.  Fill the bathtub.  Have three days of non-perishable food on hand.

5)     Collect important papers such as driver’s licenses/ID’s and take them with you.

6)     Have a supply of your prescription medications on hand.  Notify authorities of special medical needs such as electric powered equipment.

7)     Parking will not be permitted on 5th, 7th, 8th or 9th Sts. from Chesapeake Ave. to the Bay.  Parking will not be permitted on Atlantic, Annapolis or Bay Aves.  The above streets will be Tow Away Zones.

8)     Do not walk in flooded streets, flood waters may contain disease causing substances and the manhole covers will have been dislodged creating the possibility of falling into the manholes.

9)     If the order to evacuate is issued, DO SO.  Household pets can be accommodated only at Calvert Career Center.  Dogs and cats in traveling cages only.

10) Maintain a battery powered radio, flashlights and batteries.

Have a car charger for your cell phone.
